Sushi in San Francisco at Sushi Zone

My local friends, Sara and Chris, really swore by Sushi Zone. I am obsessed with sushi, and there is only so high of quality sushi one can find in the Midwest and Latin America, the two places I have spent most of my life. I knew San Francisco would not disappoint me.

Sushi Zone is a tiny little restaurant that doesn’t even attempt to impress you. You could easily walk right by this place and not even think twice about it. Their sign is barely visible, and they don’t bother with any fancy decor. When you walk in you will see 3 small booths, and room for maybe 8 people at the bar. That’s it. And yet, if you look at the waiting list, you will find a long list of names that amount to at least an hour’s wait.

Sushi worth waiting for

San Francisco is a city full of incredible food around every corner, so I found it a little hard to believe that people would so willingly write down their name and periodically check in over the next 1-2 hours in hopes of snagging a spot at the bar. Aren’t there any other places in the area that are equally as good with half the wait time?

Nope.

San Franciscans take their food really seriously, so if locals are willing to wait that long for sushi, so am I. We were able to write our names down and grab a drink at the nearby Orbit Room in the meantime. By the time we made it back they were cleaning off the bar for us.

Fancy stuff for budget prices

Once I saw what the menu had to offer and the prices, I was pretty much in love with Sushi Zone. I got delicious sushi made right in front of my eyes for basically the same price I pay for sub-par sushi in the Midwest. Amazing.

We had a feast.

They have some amazing baked bass as well as an incredible spicy mango salmon roll. Trust me, you need to go here. I recommend showing up a little before 5pm when they open their doors so you can avoid the wait. However, if you show up late, I still say it’s worth sucking it up and waiting for a spot.
