Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park
Yes, you read that correctly. An indoor trampoline park exists. Actually, there are several of them, but the founders are from St. Louis. Sky Zone is a great way to see something interesting in St. Louis while still getting a serious workout. If aren’t in St. Louis, check out their website, they may have a location near you.
The Setup
Sky Zone is basically a large warehouse full of trampoline courts. While some of the courts are reserved for intense trampoline dodgeball, others are available for Free Jump. Anyone willing to sign a safety waiver can show up, pay by the hour, and jump like crazy. The St. Louis location recently added a foam pit as well. There is something oddly satisfying about getting some momentum going on a trampoline and then flying into a pit of foam cubes. I will say that the awkward swimming/climbing motion you have to do to get out is a bit embarrassing. You go from king of the skys to fumbling idiot who can’t seem to get a grip on anything long enough to pull themselves out of a pit.
It’s a Workout
Most adults do not jump on trampolines for prolonged periods of time. The days of visiting a friend who had that amazing trampoline in their backyard have passed most of us by, along with the inexplicable endless energy of childhood. The first 10 minutes of jumping is full of pure, childlike joy. After that, you will likely start huffing and puffing. Of course, the draw of performing flips, butt bounces and jumping off walls will most likely motivate you to keep going. Sure, you may get some trampoline burns from failed trick attempts, but it is all worth it. Jumping around in a room full of trampolines and ricocheting off walls is pretty sweet on its own, but knowing you are burning off some of the delicious St. Louis food is even better.
They even have Skyrobics
What is Skyrobics, you ask? Aerobics on a trampoline court! I was not aware of this until recently, but as soon as I saw an ad for the hour-long workout on the trampoline court, I signed up for a full month. I’m working with Skyzone to track how my fitness and stamina improve over that month. You can expect a detailed post about it soon, but for now, you can keep up with me on Twitter and Instagram, where I’ll be posting about my workouts each time I go.
I’m about halfway through my month now, and I am loving it. I went to the first class with my new St. Louis blogger friend, Yokasta, of Get U Moving Fitness. I wasn’t able to track my workout, but she tracked 550 calories burned in 1 hour. Considering we had an intro class with limited cardio, that’s pretty impressive. I know I burned far more than that in my second class, as I was almost constantly moving.
You have got to try Sky Zone
Even if you aren’t up for the more intense Skyrobics class, you most definitely need to try the Free Jump. Trust me, you will have a blast. You may even get hooked and join a dodgeball league. Personally, I’m too awkward and clumsy for that, so I’ll stick to my Skyrobics and Free Jump.
