Hibiscus Margarita Recipe
I got to taste one of these refreshing jamaica (hibiscus) margaritas at a Chiles & Chocolate Cooking Class in Huatulco, Mexico. The hibiscus mixes so perfectly with the tequila, making for a very crisp and delicious beverage.
First, you’ll have to make the agua de jamaica, or hibiscus water.
Ingredients
- 2 cups hibiscus flowers (dried)
- 3/4 cup sugar (more if you like your drinks extra sweet)
Instructions
Bring 6 cups of water to a boil then add the flowers and the sugar. Stir continunously while the mixture boils for one minute. Pour into a noncorrosive bowl and steep for 2 hours.
Important: The flowers will stain, so make sure you use a dark bowl, or one you don’t mind staining, and be careful not to spill any on your clothing.
Once you have made the hibiscus water, you can move on to the margaritas.
Ingredients
- 2 shots chilled agua de jamaica
- 1 shot tequila
- 1 shot simple syrup
- juice from 1/2 a lime
- lime wedge for garnish
Instructions
Pour the hibiscus water, tequila, simple syrup, and lime juice into a chilled cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well.
Strain into a chilled margarita class.
Garnish witha lime wedge and/or hibiscus flower, if desired.
